Accomplishments

  • Developed unique projects for community and economic development in Central and Eastern Washington.
  • Successfully coordinated a large project with the Quinault Indian Nation on renewable energy and community development.
  • Sponsored broad-based organizing and advocacy for immigrant rights and amnesty with the Comite Pro-Amnistia.
  • Has begun to address the technological divide through the OPEN project, with support from the C.S. Mott Foundation, by offering technical assistance to groups working for low-income people.
  • Developed and published, with the League of Women Voters, a statewide study (County Finances) of comparative county tax systems, a basis for education and organizing efforts for public finance reform in Washington state.
  • An early and constant advocate for smart urban growth through the Metro Reform project, financed by the Northwest Area Foundation.
  • A leader in development of broad coalitions working for good government and social change with the Puget Sound Citizens League, Friends of Fishermen's Terminal, and the Comite Pro-Amnistia General y Justicia Social.
  • Developed a win-win solution for timber communities and environmentalists, resulting in a statewide economic development program "Jobs for the Environment" which has generated $15 million in annual projects and 200 jobs for displaced workers in rural communities.
